Your First Dance

Classic Wedding First Dance

A fumbling fairy tale

Part of the fairy tale wedding is that perfect first dance that you will have as a married couple. What the fairy tales fail to mention is that it takes just as much preparation for the first dance as it does for the entire ceremony.

Unfortunately, most couples don’t take into account what they are going to do for their first dance. They spend a most of their time researching wedding proposal ideas, wedding venues and floral arrangements, but very little time choosing the song and dance routine for their wedding day.

A lot goes into a first dance

First you have to decide which song you are going to dance to. You would be surprised at how many couples agree on the type of classic wedding car but have different ideas on what ‘their’ song is. So make sure you and your partner are on the same page as far as the song choice.

Pick a song that is meaningful to both of you whose lyrics reflect how you feel about each other. Don’t be afraid to choose an ‘unoriginal’ classic; you guys can make it unique. Just make sure to pick a song that is true to both of you.

Next, you’ll have to find out which dance style works with your song. Unless you are professional dancers, you will probably need to consult one on this. If you both have left feet, or you want to do something impressive like the samba, you will have to schedule in some dance classes in advance.

Dance lessons are also a great way to de-stress from all the planning and have some fun with the one you love. Just like with wedding proposal ideas, its good advice to keep the dance steps basic, this will also ensure that you avoid any injuries prior to the big day. Keep it simple, sweet and fun.

To complete the perfect romantic picture, think about the lighting as well. The right kind of lighting can create just the ambience you need to make your song and dance come alive. Collaborate with your wedding planner to see the various options and choose the right one for you.

It is also important to think about what you’re wearing and whether it suits the dance. If you are going to do an elaborate mambo routine with flips and slits, a large ballroom gown may not quite fit the bill. You may need to change into another outfit to execute your dance perfectly.
So with some practice and all these in place, you are sure to make quite the impression as you make your first entrance as a couple. Good luck!
