How To Plan A Vintage Wedding

A vintage wedding

If you have always dreamed of a timeless wedding shrouded in romanticism, memories and moments from a time long past, then a vintage style wedding is the perfect choice for you. Picture the charm and elegance of beautifully crafted lace corset and long flowing gown. Pick out your favourite era whether it be the 1920’s, 1960’s or somewhere in between. There was a lot of change throughout the 20th century so there is plenty to choose from. The key though is to be consistent, pick an era and stick to it. Make sure the style is consistent throughout and conveys the essence of the period. Where do you start? It is important that you both choose a theme that conveys what vintage means to you as a couple. Are you imagining the same things, the same styles the same era? The possibilities are endless but attention to detail is crucial to pull the whole day off. Look at past movies, books, art, poems and plays for inspiration. Maybe it’s stories from your Grandparents or Great Grandparents that might inspire you. Classic romantic tales, where love conquers all. Or a time when life was fun and free from all the shackles of modern day times.

After picking the particular era you had in mind, the rest of the planning should fall easily into place. The next big thing on your list will be the wedding dress. As vintage style covers a range of era’s and styles, this is something you may need to research a little more as standard dress shops may not stock you particular style. You could always try shop online or perhaps at some of the more boutique stores. Once the dress is picked out its time to choose the bridesmaids outfits. The groom to be will also need to do his part in coming up with a stylish suit that matches the occasion.

Once the vintage wedding outfits have been decided on the next step is find a romantic venue that paints the picture of the era you have chosen. This could be an old mansion estate, grand hall, historical church. If these are not available think about how the décor could be put up to give your venue the look and feel that it needs.

After the venue has been chosen, it’s time for the details. Remember consistency is key, so making sure everything from the invitations, the décor, the music, the flower arrangements, the cake and the food & drink all have a vintage twist that embellishes the romanticism of the moment and captures the true spirit of the age is essential.
