Recent Research from US has identified 4 trends which are shaping the wedding industry.*
Do they reflect what you find in the Australian marketplace?
1. Budget Bounce Back
Budgets are more robust than 5 years ago.
Signs include large bridal parties and less homespun wedding design e.g. DIY shabby chic.
Extravagance and whimsy often add to costs.
When you compare weddings of parents and current brides, the parents’ wedding is much simpler in style.
Clients are not willing to waste money. They are willing to pay for quality and get what they want.
2. Indian and Desi Weddings
Resplendent multi day affairs of Indian and Desi weddings are impacting on mainstream weddings.
Rich colour palettes and exuberant styles are on the rise.
There is more bling and splashes of colour to be seen.
3. Same Sex Weddings
Same sex weddings are increasing, but only slowly.
A contributing factor is existing wedding marketing which does not reflect inclusiveness.
For example, language references to ‘ bride and groom’. This needs to change to ‘ engaged couples’ and ‘clients’.
A paradigm shift is needed for same sex weddings to become a major new market.
4. Millenials-Their Wedding, their Way
Millenials are taking customised weddings to new heights. They are determined to reflect the couples personalities. It is a branding statement.
The goal is that the wedding is specific to them, their relationships and personalities.
No detail is too small for customisation e.g. a favourite icecream flown to the wedding.
Millenials are notorious for collecting masses of data from the internet before making a decision.
